1/1/2026 – At 12:44am the Hawthorne Fire Department was toned out for our first call for 2026, a reported house fire in the area of 1st Ave and Rea Ave. while enroute HPD advised of a detached garage on fire to the read of a residence. Chief 50 arrived and confirmed a fire in a detached garage with heavy fire in the rear. Companies arrived and stretched 2 lines to attack the fire while other members were working to remove the garage door to make access. The fire was quickly knocked down but companies operated for about an hour and a half doing extensive overhaul. Thank you to Hawthorne Volunteer Ambulance Corps for standing by on scene and Glen Rock Volunteer Fire Department for providing coverage for the Borough while our members operated.
