Quick knock down saves further damage to condo

Members of the department started there morning off today with a 2nd alarm fire. Companies were dispatched for a report of a smoke condition in an apartment at 2 Grand Ave. First arriving police officers reported smoke coming from the windows and reported a working fire. AC Longo signed on the air and requested a re-tone as well as a Prospect Park engine and Wyckoff FAST to the scene. Engine 3 and Tower 2 arrived and AC Longo took command reporting a 2 story condo and confirming a working fire in a first floor apartment. A crew from Tower 2 made entry to the apartment for a primary search while Engine 3 had a line to locate and extinguish the fire. At this time command requested a 2nd alarm for coverage of the Borough while crews were busy with the fire. A second crew from Tower was throwing ground ladders for egress and securing utilities. Engine 4 and Engine 1 searched the 2nd floor apartments while Rescue was designated the FAST until Wyckoff’s arrival. All searches were negative and the fire was placed under control within 30 minutes. Thank you to all our mutual aid for your assistance, the communications division for their hard work, the ambulance corp for standing by in case of emergency, and the ladies auxiliary for standing by with refreshments. As always great job by everyone involved.
