PART I - Matches are for Grown-Ups!

Children at this grade level should be aware that there are good fires well as bad fires. They should be able to distinguish between fires that are safe and fires that are dangerous.

PART II - Matches are for Grown-Ups!

Children at this grade level should know that matches are very dangerous. They should be taught that if they find matches or cigarette lighters to tell an adult. They should avoid picking them up unless smaller children are likely to pick them up. If they do pick them up, they should be taught to bring them immediately to an adult.

PART III - The Fireman is Your Friend

Children need to understand and recognize that the fireman is their friend. They should be taught not to be afraid of the turnout gear or the different parts of the gear that can scare them. Parents can look at the picture below and explain to their child that if there is a fire, they should call for the fireman and he will help them. They should be familiar with the different clothes that fireman wear when there is a fire. Look at the picture below and describe the different parts of a firefighters gear so that the child is not afraid and hides or runs away from a fireman trying to rescue them.
