Last night the Department held its installation/awards dinner. All firematic and social officers were sworn into their respective positions and members received awards for years of service as well as special awards for recognition of exceptional jobs done on calls. Special awards were as follows:
– Unit Citation from Mayor and Department for members operating during Hurricane Ida
– Unit Citation for members who operated at a technical rescue of a bariatric patient from a 2nd floor apartment.
– Meritorious Service Unit Citation for water rescues made during Hurricane Ida to Asst Chief Manzo, Lt’s Brian Warner and Brendan Frei, Capt. Dominick Degroot, Lt. Daryl Foca, and Firefighter Kevin Kennerson.
– Grand Cordon Citation to Asst Chief Joe Longo for running operations during Hurricane Ida
– Life Saving Award to Ex Asst Chief Peter Van der Velde for locating a vehicle in the water in his personal vehicle while responding to the firehouse and entering the flood waters without any equipment to rescue occupants.
